DEAR DINOSAUR - "Goodbye Mr. Ramis"

This week’s Dear Dinosaur is a really special installment, as we interrupt our current storyline to pay tribute to one of the greatest comedic minds this world has ever known.  Head over to www.twoforonecomics.com to see the strip and then head back here for my brief official commentary, as we pay our respects to the late, great Harold Ramis.

Some of my greatest memories of my childhood were watching the comedies that Harold Ramis wrote, directed, and/or starred in.  My older brother and cousin were huge fans of Ramis and passed that on to me at a young age.  His entire career, from his beginnings on SCTV to his numerous brilliant films, served as a cornerstone of my life growing up.  When I found out about Ramis’s death on Monday, it felt like a punch to the gut.  I don’t remember the last time I was so affected by the death of a celebrity—probably the death of Joey Ramone.  I sat at my desk, fighting back tears as I remembered all of my wonderful memories of his body of work.

Ramis is a huge influence on my writing, especially with Dear Dinosaur.  There isn’t a gag or joke in the series that isn’t deeply rooted in his work, so I thought it fitting to express my sadness over his death through our titular hero.  Dear Dino’s love for Ramis parallels my own in this comic, in which I tried to pack as many references to his work as I could into just four panels, along with a fifth containing one of my favorite quotes from Ramis.  References in this strip include direct references to National Lampoon’s Vacation, SCTV, and Ghostbusters, as well as smaller references to Animal House, Meatballs, Caddyshack, and Stripes.

Normally this is where I say that this page, along with all others, is for sale.  However, I’m not sure that I want to sell the original 11 x 17 art for this strip.  This is certainly one of the most personal strips I’ve ever done, so I might need to keep it to myself.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Ramis.  You will be missed.

DEAR DINOSAUR - "(s)Motherly Love"

Dear Dinosaur is back people!  After last week’s bizarre meta-Dear Dinosaur that I created in Microsoft Paint, this week’s strip is traditionally created and brings us back to the storyline of this volume.  Dear Dinosaur and Krunch head back to the farm to visit Dear Dino’s mom in this week’s strip, which you can find over at www.twoforonecomics.com!  Once you read this week’s strip, head back here for the official commentary!

DEAR DINOSAUR - "Dear Digital Dinosaur"

After taking a week off due to an attack of influenza, Dear Dinosaur is back this week with an all-new strip!  This week’s strip is something different—an interlude of sorts—due to unforseen circumstances that prevented me from finishing the strip I had originally intended.  Head over to www.twoforonecomics.com to see what I mean and then head back here for the finished strip!

No DEAR DINOSAUR on February 6th!

Hey friends! As a quick heads up, there will not be a new Dear Dinosaur on February 6th.  I've been knocked out for the last few days with the flu, which has completely kept me from the drawing board.  I will return with a new Dear Dinosaur next week.  Thanks for understanding!
