This week’s Dear Dinosaur commentary is a bit late—my bad! I got wrapped up towards the end of the week with lots of un-fun non-comic stuff and then I very unexpectedly attended C2E2 this past Saturday (more on that later). So, even though we are just a few days away from a new Dear Dinosaur, here is today’s commentary! Head over to www.twoforonecomics.com to check out the strip, then come back here for the commentary!
This week’s strip features Ryan’s plan for confronting Otis about his crimes against our heroes. This was partially inspired by Jay and Silent Bob’s plans to destroy the game show set in Mallrats. I always dug how they did the stick figure “blueprints” to set up the action, so I stole that here. Ryan has always been the level-headed member of the group, but things are very different now—Ryan is getting hot headed and Dear Dinosaur seems oddly calm. We’ll see why starting next week!
I was only able to throw in one “in-joke” in this week’s strip. The security guards at Otis’s office are professional wrestlers Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose—two of the three members of The Shield, a faction of badass wrestlers in the WWE. I’ve been watching a ton of pro wrestling lately and it seems pretty natural to give them a cameo as security guards.
This week’s soundtrack is “Misrelou” by Dick Dale, which most people know as the opening theme to one of my favorite films, Pulp Fiction.
Finally, this week’s strip, along with many others is for sale! If you’d like to buy the original 11 x 17 art, it’s only $10 plus $3 shipping anywhere in the US. Shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested!
