After an unexpected hiatus, Dear Dinosaur returns this week! Head over to www.twoforonecomics.com and see Dear Dinosaur’s first attempt at confronting Otis after learning that the villain had been plotting for years to take over the strip. Once you enjoy that, head over here for the official commentary!
First of all, I have to apologize for the delay in the new strip. I had intended to take just a single week off to catch up on the strip and start working ahead so that I could launch Left2Right on time. Unfortunately, there were some equipment changes at the copyshop where I have Dear Dinosaur scanned and issues on their end meant that I couldn’t get the pages scanned for several weeks. The good news is that I’m now several weeks ahead and that there will be no more delays between now and the final of Dear Dinosaur at the end of May.
This week’s Dear Dinosaur is riffs on Peanuts and Sally’s letters to Santa. I borrowed the form of that for Dear Dinosaur, whom has been pretty calm throughout this volume, to write his confrontation letter to Otis. I wanted to distance Dear Dinosaur’s angry past from his current state as much as possible—we are definitely seeing a changed character here and Ryan has to remind him of the badass he once was, which will play heavily in the finale. And yes, Ryan is wearing a “Vote for Bob Newhart” shirt. Newhart is one of the single most underrated comedic geniuses of all time and apparently I wanted to celebrate that (I drew this several weeks ago, so I’m not sure if I put more thought into it than that.
This week’s soundtrack song is “Blue Monday” by New Order, simply because I have had it in my head all day.
Finally, this week’s strip, along with many others is for sale! If you’d like to buy the original 11 x 17 art, it’s only $10 plus $3 shipping anywhere in the US. Shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested!
