Dear Dinosaur is back people! After last week’s bizarre meta-Dear Dinosaur that I created in Microsoft Paint, this week’s strip is traditionally created and brings us back to the storyline of this volume. Dear Dinosaur and Krunch head back to the farm to visit Dear Dino’s mom in this week’s strip, which you can find over at www.twoforonecomics.com! Once you read this week’s strip, head back here for the official commentary!
We first met Dear Dinosaur’s mother way back in Volume III, where she appeared in a flashback to Dear Dinosaur’s childhood on his family’s farm. The panel was silent, so it was little more than a cameo. This week we meet her full-on and see that her relationship with Krunch is less than stellar. Krunch is such a hardheaded personality that it only makes sense to me that she would clash with Dear Dinosaur, especially since I liked the idea of Dear Dino getting his brash nature from her. Writing their dialogue was a lot of fun and actually made me sad that I just now put the two of them together, as I won’t have many opportunities to team them up again.
I’m still torn on whether or not that we’ll see Dear Dinosaur’s father in the strip. His mother was so over-the-top that I can’t really think of a way to fit him in that would work without detracting from her. We’ll see—there are only a few more weeks left after all. I will try to find a way to sneak in his name at least, which will hopefully be as funny as her being named Dinah. Yes, her name is Dinah Dinosaur.
This week’s soundtrack song is “Mama I’m Coming Home” by Ozzy Osbourne. This one is pretty self-explanatory. Check back next week for a song that probably has nothing to do with the actual comic (which features the return of Ryan!).
Finally, this week’s strip, along with many others is for sale! If you’d like to buy the original 11 x 17 art, it’s only $10 plus $3 shipping anywhere in the US. Shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested!
