Dear Dinosaur - "Workplace Harmony"

Another Thursday, another brand new Dear Dinosaur webcomic over at www.twoforonecomics.com, and another official Dear Dinosaur commentary!  This week’s strip features the first team-up of Dear Dinosaur and his new sidekick, Word the Bird.  As you can expect, things don’t get well as they try to answers this week’s question on dealing with difficult coworkers!  Check out this week’s strip and then hit the jump for the commentary!

Last week we learned that Dear Dinosaur’s new sidekick—as demanded by the Shadowy Board of Editorial Figures—is none other than Word the Bird.  Word is a bit of a know-it-all that has a tumultuous relationship with Dear Dinosaur.  This was actually a really fun strip to put together because of the relationship between Word and Dear Dino.  I was greatly inspired by classic Looney Tunes interactions between Bugs and Daffy for this exchange.  The 2nd panel in row 3 is my “homage” to those classic arguments.

Our “questioner” this week is rocking an L7 shirt.  For the younger folks, L7 was an all-female grunge band that formed in the mid-80s and melted faces pretty much non-stop until they disbanded in 2001.  L7 is one of my favorite bands and I’ve been meaning to draw their logo into the strip at some point.  When I drew it in, Trish was rather plain looking, but I figured that if she was an L7 fan, I should probably add a little flair hence the addition of the tattoos.  Most of them are nonsense, but her forearm tattoo says “Duck Season,” which is one more homage to those classic Bugs/Daffy interplays on Looney Tunes.

This week’s soundtrack is from L7, fittingly.  I’m sure some hardcore fans out there will be annoyed me choosing such an obvious song from their catalogue, but “Shitlist” is definitely the most fitting (though my favorite will always be “Packin’ a Rod”).  Enjoy!

Finally, this week’s strip, along with many others is for sale!  If you’d like to buy the original 11 x 17 art, it’s only $10 plus $3 shipping anywhere in the US.  Shoot me an email at rlschrodt@gmail.com if you are interested!
