It’s Thursday and you know what that means! Not only is there a brand new Dear Dinosaur webcomic posted at www.twoforonecomics.com, but I also have commentary for today’s strip—“Girl on Girl!”
This is the final part of a three-part storyline that began with Dear Dinosaur hitting the clubs with his highly irresponsible friends Rodney and Trips and lead to our “hero” having a one night stand in last week’s strip. This week Krunch gets wind of Dear Dinosaur’s transgressions and she is not happy.
This is probably the most straight-forward Dear Dinosaur strip that I’ve ever done. The confrontation between Krunch and the unnamed hussy didn’t leave me a lot of room to add in Easter Eggs or side jokes, but since this is a pretty major moment in the saga of Dear Dino and his estranged wife that is probably a good thing. I don’t think the strip would be as effective if I got sidetracked by cramming more stuff in there than necessary.
There were two things I really wanted to highlight in this strip—Krunch’s level-headed pragmatic nature and Dear Dinosaur’s utter confusion. One thing that has always fascinated me about young relationships is the fact that girls tend to turn against one another before putting the blame on the guy that has come between them. I play on that a bit with the hussy’s reaction, while the more mature Krunch is clearly just hurt and angry with Dear Dinosaur.
This storyline is a major turning point in the volume, which is now 5/7 of the way complete. There are only six week’s left to the volume and Dear Dinosaur is now realizing that he needs to get his act together—at least as much as he can considering he will always be a gigantic prehistoric idiot.
Be sure to check back next week for the return of popular guest star Robosaurus!
Finally, this week’s strip, along with many others is for sale! If you’d like to buy the original 11 x 17 art, it’s only $10 plus $3 shipping anywhere in the US. Shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested!
