QC Planet Comic & Arts Convention - Sunday November 18th!

Just a real quick announcement y'all...I have been added as a guest for this year's QC Planet Comic & Arts Convention in Rock Island, IL!  The show looks to be a great low-key get together for fans and creators.  Guests include myself, Jenny Frison, Gregg Paulsen, Charles Simpson and more!  For more information, check out their Facebook event page, which has a full list of guests: https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/480335245313288/

My usual rates apply for this show, so you can check out the list of prices that I put up for my signing at Limited Edition Comics last week.  If you are interested in preordering a set of sketchcards (6 cards for $5) or a 9 x 12 piece ($10), let me know right away!

I hope to see y'all on Sunday!

I-Con Comic Book Convention Wrap-Up

The annual I-Con Comic Book Convention, put on by the Iowa Comic Book Club, was this weekend in Des Moines, IA and I was honored to be part of the show for the second year.  The 2011 show was one of my favorite shows of the year and I am happy to report that the 2012 show was just as much of a success for me!

The show moved to the All Play Center in downtown Des Moines after several years at the Adventureland Inn in Altoona, IA (just outside Des Moines).  While parking was a major hassle for a lot of con-goers, I think that the show moving into the more larger downtown area was a good a move as the crowd was packed all day.  The only downside to the center is that the creators had to be split into two rooms, with the majority in a larger space with the dealers, while a handful of creators were in a secondary room across the center.

My books sold well all day and, once again, my MAKEbelieve minicomics for young readers were a hit with the more casual patrons with kids. Dear Dinosaur Volumes 1 and 2 also sold quite well throughout the day.  I even met my first Dear Dinosaur "superfan," had been following the strip for months before the show.  That was a first for me and completely made the show!

Hit the jump for a bunch of photos from the show, along with some swag that I picked up--but first, a really rad video that some folks made (I show up right away)!

Limited Edition Comics Signing Wrap-Up

Yesterday I had a fantastic signing event at Limited EditionComics in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  I cannot thank owner Rob and his crew enough for how welcome they made me and my wife feel during the event yesterday.  Limited Edition has a history of fantastic signings, with the likes of Erik Burnham, Tom Nguyen, and Cory Hamscher making regular appearances.  Even though I am far from the caliber of these creators, I was treated with the utmost respect and reverence throughout the day from both the staff and patrons of the shop.  The entire event was an absolute blast and I look forward to future signings there in the future!  Hit the jump to see some of the art that I did for the event!

17 Days of Halloween Sketches!

While I most certainly do not consider myself an "aritst," I do spend some time every night to work on a sketch to sharpen my limited skills, which I hope will translate into a better looking Dear Dinosaur webcomic.  I post the sketches each night on my Twitter account and on my Facebook page.  In honor of Halloween this year, I decided to do 17 Nights of Halloween Sketches, most of which were chosen by my various social media followers.  Hit the jump to see the finished sketches!
