I-Con Comic Book Convention Wrap-Up

The annual I-Con Comic Book Convention, put on by the Iowa Comic Book Club, was this weekend in Des Moines, IA and I was honored to be part of the show for the second year.  The 2011 show was one of my favorite shows of the year and I am happy to report that the 2012 show was just as much of a success for me!

The show moved to the All Play Center in downtown Des Moines after several years at the Adventureland Inn in Altoona, IA (just outside Des Moines).  While parking was a major hassle for a lot of con-goers, I think that the show moving into the more larger downtown area was a good a move as the crowd was packed all day.  The only downside to the center is that the creators had to be split into two rooms, with the majority in a larger space with the dealers, while a handful of creators were in a secondary room across the center.

My books sold well all day and, once again, my MAKEbelieve minicomics for young readers were a hit with the more casual patrons with kids. Dear Dinosaur Volumes 1 and 2 also sold quite well throughout the day.  I even met my first Dear Dinosaur "superfan," had been following the strip for months before the show.  That was a first for me and completely made the show!

Hit the jump for a bunch of photos from the show, along with some swag that I picked up--but first, a really rad video that some folks made (I show up right away)!

First sketch card of the day, a girl who loves Ninja Turtles!

Me with our first ever Dear Dinosaur superfan, Mary (right) and her friend Stevie (left)!

This girl picked up my Deadpool/Doctor Who sketch cover, even though she yelled at me because I've only watched Matt Smith Doctor Who episodes!

Jeff digs his Doctor Doom commission!

This little dude loves Star Wars and asked for two sketchcards, this Clone Trooper and an R2D2 card!

The last sketch of the day, Dear Dinosaur!

Me and my pal Ryan Gillispie, who was my table neighbor for the day (and did an awesome pin-up for Dear Dino Vol 2)

My first purchase of the day, an awesome Raphael by Gregg Paulsen!
